Universal Fire 48x60" About This Painting Universal Fire is one of my larger universe art paintings. This is my depiction of one of the most fabled features of the universe: comets. The mystique surrounding comets crosses many cultural and historic barriers. Comets are powerful, often frightening, balls of fire streaking across the sky. Although they have sometimes been viewed as harbingers of disaster, some interpreters believe that comets amplify for each individual the characteristics and circumstances that they already possess. In this sense, a comet will bring more power to the powerful, more joy to the joyous and more fear to the fearful. This painting required many layers so that colors would be intense without blending with the layers beneath. In fact, I had to build a roaring fire in the room where I was painting (in the middle of the summer) to get the temperature over 100F so that the painting would dry fast enough to retain the distinct shape of my fortuitous comet.
