Towards the Evening in Early Spring

16x20"

About This Painting
This painting is both a depiction of a particular time of year and a particular time of day. The trees do not yet have full foliage--they are a bright green before the deepening green of summer. As the title indicates, this is early spring. The autumn leaves are still on the ground, not yet overtaken by annual undergrowth. The sun is setting, but not far down enough for sunset colors to appear. This is the "golden hour" when the light is magical and fleeting. (Interestingly, this is the time of day when the majority of movie scenes are shot--it is the most pleasing and glowing kind of light in the day.)
